Little Boy Lost by Paige, PCW Melbourne

Dear Marcus,

The day that was supposed to be a miracle turned out to be a nightmare. The tears trickled down my cheeks and my heart started to deflate the first time I saw you. You were born sleeping. Your tranquil, motionless body appeared in front of me whilst my mind was wrapped with confusion.

Your breathless body was handed to me. There you were, a placid baby boy resting in my arms. In my mind, I begged and begged for you to wake up. You never did. Your delicate, silky hand was in my tight grasp as I looked into your peaceful face. Blood stained your beautiful face, however, our family's tears washed it away. That first touch has made an imprint on my heart and I will never forget the peace I felt with you in my arms.

It was here. It was already time to say goodbye to your precious, frail body. We arrived in a daunting, silver station wagon that also carried you. The coffin was opened for the last time, the last time to see your lifeless body. Your coffin was as white as snow, outlined in charcoal silver. Every child who attended the funeral was offered a teddy bear to represent the love you would have spread around.

Now where you lie, many children lie with you. Rows and rows are occupied with children unable to wake up from a dream. A rainbow of toys, balloons and windmills are placed in the soil where you slumber. You are surrounded by many other young children who you can play in peace with. No matter what happens, you will always be remembered in my heart and as my baby brother.

Love from your big sister Paige.
